In the evening after a glass of wine from our extensive wine list you can choose from our famous fine dining or new brasserie menu. Our dedicated team of chefs uses only the finest, freshest ingredients on a daily basis to produce our delicious menus.

In the courtyard, we have converted the old stable block into a comfortable eight room Hotel, all with en-suite bathrooms and free WIFI. The Starr is only 15 minutes’ drive from Stansted airport making it the ideal place for that overnight stop or short break.

The Starr – Restaurant and The Stables Hotel

The Starr first opened its doors in the 15th century as a coaching inn on the Suffolk to London route and since then has had many famous faces pass through its doors, including Jamie Oliver who honed his skills in our kitchen before going to Westminster catering college. In its coaching days travellers would stop overnight and any prisoner being transported to London would be kept in the holding cell that to this day is still in the cellar.
